“Field of No Justice,”
Sara Elkamel’s debut chapbook, was published in October 2021 by the African Poetry Book Fund and Akashic Books.

Kwame Dawes and Chris Abani, co-editors of the African Poetry Book Fund’s New-Generation African Poets series, which features an annual selection of chapbooks by poets of African descent, have selected Elkamel’s manuscript, “Field of No Justice,” for publication as part of the 2021 chapbook box set (Nane).

In her preface, Shara McCallum writes of “Field of No Justice:”

“To say Elkamel is a lyric poet of the highest order sounds hyperbolic, I’m aware, but it is in fact the truth. The lyricism of this collection is one of its most striking attributes, Elkamel a poet whose music is immediately audible, distinctive, and compelling. The poems contain echoes of images, words, and phrases, whose corollary in ideas and feelings reverberate across the pages. Two of the most recursive images—birds and song—become leitmotifs that create visual and auditory refrain. They trace the arc of the collection and outline the migratory nature of the poet’s voice and concerns.”
